Whether you are riding your bike or driving a car, road hazards could be the cause of your accident. If this is the case, the road agency could be the one at fault. If you are in an accident that was initially caused because of road hazards, it is in your best interest to call an Illinois personal injury lawyer. You should not be the one to pay for an injury that is unavoidable and should not have happened.
Potholes are common road hazards that cars and bikes may run into. These are generally caused by when the surface breaks because of long term wear and tear on the road. They can also happen when road fixes are not up to par and the fixed road cracks soon after.
If the pothole was caused by temporary repair work, the road agency would be responsible IF they did not provide sufficient warning, such as blocking the repaired area or putting warning signs or cones up.
If the pothole was the result of long-term wear and tear, then the road agency would be responsible if they were found negligent. This would depend on how long the surface break has been there.
If it has only been there a couple of days, the road agency would possibly not be responsible. However, if the pothole has been there for a few weeks or months, it could be found liable, especially if there were other accidents that were called in because of this particular pothole and the road agency did not fix.
If you are in an accident caused by a pothole, contact a Peoria accident lawyer for advice.

If you have been injured because of someone else’s negligence, evidence is crucial if you intend to pursue a lawsuit. Here is a checklist of what you can do after you are in an injury to help preserve some of the evidence. This information is helpful to your Illinois personal injury lawyer.
Gather Pertinent Information
- Ambulance name and address
- Emergency Room name and address
- Dates you were in the hospital
- Names of doctors who examined you
- Names of people in the accident
- Names of witnesses
- Dates you missed of work because of accident
Documents Needed for the Peoria Injury Lawyer
- Accident report
- Written statement copies
- Automobile insurance policy if in a car accident
- Homeowner’s or renter’s policy
- Medical or disability insurance policy or coverage certificate
- Medical bills
- Receipts of things you bought because of the injury
- Receipts of things you need to fix because of the accident
This is an overview of things you may need after an injury. Your safety is first and foremost. Be sure to go to the hospital or doctor after an injury, even if you think you are okay. Many times after an accident, people tend to be in shock and are not aware of their injuries. If you are not able to gather this information, your Illinois injury lawyer will take care of this for you.

According to a recent article on pjstar.com, the city is asking that no more cuts be made to PAWS, as any more cuts may impact the safety of the people.
People tend to think of PAWS as a place where unwanted dogs and cats are sent to be put to sleep. This is not the case. In fact, PAWS is a major contribution to people’s safety.
Second District City Councilwoman Barbara Van Auken states, “Many people might think this is just puppies and kittens,” Van Auken said. ”No it isn’t. Eighty percent of their work is public safety… whether it’s the sick raccoon or the vicious dog on the loose.”
When a dog or raccoon is on the loose and ends up biting a person, PAWS is there to protect the public from getting bitten and possibly contracting rabies. As a Peoria injury lawyer, the public’s safety is important to me. Another important service PAWS does is to make sure that dog and cat owners have their animals vaccinated to protect people from rabies.
According to pjstar.com, “PAWS operates a $1.6 million annual budget and employs 15 people. Through rabies registration fees, adoptions, fines and contractual obligations from other cities in Peoria County, PAWS generates about $1.1 million a year, leaving a deficit of $500,000.” The fate of PAWS is still unclear. However, the fate of public safety must be a priority. As an Illinois personal injury lawyer, I want to see a decrease in dog bites, not an increase. There is a strong possibility that without the services of PAWS that more animals will be roaming the streets increasing the risks of dog bites.
If you have been bitten by a dog, contact an Illinois personal injury lawyer right away. A Peoria injury lawyer will gather evidence necessary for a personal injury lawsuit. If a dog bites, then someone must pay.

Every day people get into their cars and are at risk of becoming a statistic of road rage. Why? The answer to this is that we simply do not know when we will run into someone that has just reached his/her limit. Stress is a huge factor in road rage. Road rage increases your chances of becoming a victim of someone else’s stress. This stress can be the cause of road rage, which in turn, results in bad driving and personal injury lawsuits.
As a Peoria accident lawyer, I want to help you avoid becoming a statistic of road rage. While it is not possible to know what another person is thinking or what a person has been through before they get behind the wheel, there are some things you can do to minimize your risk of encountering or fueling road rage. This list comes from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
- Try not to take traffic problems personally
- Avoid eye contact when you encounter an aggressive driver.
- Never make obscene gestures. This can bring road rage to a whole new level.
- Do not tailgate.
- Do not honk unless it is necessary for safety.
- Do not block the passing lane. Stay in the right lane unless you are passing.
- Do not block the right turn lane if you are not turning right.
- Give yourself time to get where you are going to help you avoid rushing and feeling stressed.
If you are injured because of someone else’s road rage, contact an Illinois accident lawyer right away. Regardless of why a person becomes aggressive during driving, there is no excuse. Anyone who gets behind the wheel of a car must put aside all feelings that take their mind off of the road. People need to take responsibility. If something has happened that will increase their risk of road rage, they should not get behind the wheel. It is not your fault they are angry. Contact a Peoria accident lawyer right away to preserve crucial evidence.

It is shocking the amount of people who are injured each year during a police chase that had nothing to do with the victim. People are walking down the street, driving in their cars, or even sitting in their front yards and are dragged into a situation that can completely change their worlds forever. This is all because a police officer decided to chase down a criminal.
Yes, there are times when a police chase is warranted. If there is a maniac roaming the city, a police chase would be understandable. However, when a person is killed during a police chase of a teenager that stole a sports car, this is just not justified by any means.
When will police officers finally understand that the dangers of a police chase are much worse than the dangers that are caused by a teenager that is having some fun in a stolen sports car? We understand that police officers are there to protect us. However, it is important that police officers make the right choices during a pursuit.
This happens all too often. Innocent children are run over during a police chase. Innocent drivers are killed in car crashes. Innocent by-standers are taken as hostages because a police chase scared a criminal into doing a worse crime. Police officers have a dangerous job and are here to protect us. However, when someone is killed because of someone else’s minor crime, this is simply unjustifiable.
If you have been injured in a police chase or a family member was killed, contact an Illinois personal injury lawyer right away. A Peoria, Illinois attorney will gather the necessary evidence needed to win your case. More awareness needs to be made about the senseless deaths caused by police chases.
